We pray for The Church of Uganda, which traces its origins to 1877 missionary efforts by the Church Missionary Society under Henry Stanley and British-backed mission teams. It became an autonomous province in 1980, now encompassing 39 dioceses and ministering to over 13 million adherents, which amounts to about 29% of Uganda’s population in 2024.
Since 2020 the Primate has been The Most Rev’d Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, Bishop of Kampala, and under his leadership the church has emphasised evangelism, theological education, social development, peace-building, and robust HIV/AIDS outreach programs.
Historically significant for its stand against colonial and political challenges—highlighted by the martyrdom of early converts under Kabaka Mwanga—the Church of Uganda remains a social anchor, administering numerous schools, hospitals, and media outreach initiatives.
