We pray for The Anglican Church in Brazil (Igreja Anglicana no Brasil), birthed by Gafcon in 2018. With roots in the Diocese of Recife, it became a province with three dioceses, 54 communities, and roughly 74 clergy.
Its theology is firmly evangelical, prioritising biblical authority, church planting, social action, and discipleship. Innovative strategies like “House of Peace” cell-based ministry have fuelled rapid growth, doubling Recife congregations between 2005 and 2009, and expanding into Vitória and João Pessoa. Social outreach and evangelical zeal are core to its identity.
The church is led by The Most Rev. Dr. Miguel Uchôa, diocesan Bishop of Recife since 2012 and the first Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church in Brazil, installed in 2018. In addition to his leadership roles, he is known for founding the influential Paróquia Anglicana Espírito Santo in 1996. Under Uchôa’s leadership, the denomination has gained momentum in national ministry while upholding conservative Anglican traditions and rejecting liberal theological shifts.
