The Gospel ‘How’ of Theological Education

As part of the first GAFCON gathering in Jerusalem in 2008, a group of theological educators met to discuss a Biblical approach to Theological Education. In the second of three sessions, Rev. Dr. Mike Ovey, Principal of Oak Hill Theological College in London, outlines an approach to theological education. He argues that there is a hidden curriculum in all teaching (whether theological or not) which communicates a great deal about what the teacher thinks is important. Engaging with modernist and post-modernist conceptions of inter-personal relations, Rev. Dr. Ovey shows how theological education needs to instil Gospel relational concepts in students. He finally tackles the issue of intellectual truth in theological education and the need to see a coherence in Christian truth with a humble spirit.
